Forgotten Fiji: Mission Trip Information
2026 Trip Info
A few notes about this trip – this year’s plans are a bit different;
Because we’ll be in Suva (the capital) during peak season, we won’t be able to secure significant group discounts, and many missionaries choose to arrive early or stay longer to enjoy Fiji’s beauty. As a result, you will book your flight and accommodations for yourself. Suggestions are below. Please use one of the hotels listed since they are in walking distances to the clinic at the Civic Center. We’ll coordinate transportation once you’re in Fiji.
REGISTRATION
How it works
1. Submit the Initial Interest Form.
2. We’ll review requests and notify you if you’re invited to join the mission.
Invitations depend on registration date, space availability, and priority for medical professionals.
3. If you’re invited, you’ll receive an email with a link to complete the full registration for you and any others who will join you.
4. The invitation email will include all trip information and next steps.
5. After you complete the full registration, you may make flight and accommodation arrangements.
MISSIONARY COSTS
Costs will vary depending on flight class and accommodation level that you choose. This year’s itinerary in the city of Suva offers more options. (See Flights & Transportation and Accommodations for cost details.)
There is a $200 per‑missionary fee to cover meals from Monday through Saturday and transportation to and from the airport, the clinic, and evangelistic meetings. This donation is tax‑deductible, and a receipt will be issued.
FOOD
We will provide three meals daily Monday-Saturday.
FLIGHTS & TRANSPORTATION
Flights
- Estimated cost: $950–$1,250 per person.
- Recommended from SFO: Saturday night, August 15, 2026, Fiji Airways Flight 5020, 7:54 PM, arriving in Nadi (NAN) early Monday morning, August 17, around 6:00 AM (we cross the IDL International Date Line so we loose a day).
- You may depart from other U.S. airports or travel on a different schedule. We will provide transportation from Nadi to Suva on Monday morning only.
- *Please consider a “Comfort” fare if possible. It includes two checked bags. If you donate a bag to carry medical/dental supplies, email volunteer@forgottenfiji.org with the number of bags donated.
- Note: If your flight includes a U.S. domestic connection with a partner airline, a “Comfort” fare may not be available due to domestic baggage rules.
If you’re flying from a different part of the USA or internationally, please land in Fiji on Monday morning as well. Otherwise you will need to arrange ground transportation on your own. Private Taxis can be hired. See below.
*We are currently exploring the possibility of shipping all medical and dental supplies ahead of the mission trip. If this is successful, your extra checked baggage allowance will no longer be needed for transporting these items. In that case, I strongly encourage you to use that additional bag to bring clothing to donate. The people in the highlands and the squatter settlements will be the recipients, as the level of poverty is truly staggering. Clothing for men, women, and children is greatly needed.
Transportation in Fiji
- Nadi to Suva is about 3.5–4 hours by bus, with a breakfast stop en route.
- If you need to travel to or from the airport on your own a private Taxi is $75-$125.
- In Suva, we’ll provide transportation to and from your hotel, the clinic site, and the evening evangelistic site as needed.
Scheduled transport:
- Nadi to Suva: Monday, August 17, 6:00 AM
- Suva to Nadi: Sunday, August 23, 3:30 PM for those who need to get back home quickly
- Suva to Nadi: Tuesday, August 25, 3:30 PM for those who want to stay and play a bit
Return travel
- Return flights are flexible, but on Sunday, August 23 and Tuesday, August 25 we provide transport back to Nadi airport. We typically fly Fiji Airways Flight 870 at 10:15 PM.
- If you stay longer or depart on a different day, you’re responsible for your own transportation back to Nadi. Some people have scheduled full vacations before or after the mission trip.

DO'S AND DON'TS IN FIJI
Do
Be respectful of local customs; dress modestly in clinics and villages
Use local translators when needed; ask before taking photos
Show appreciation to hosts and community leaders (gratitude, possibly a small host-approved gift)
Follow the lead of local partners and mission leaders on protocols
Don’t
Don’t assume English is universal in rural areas; rely on local contacts for translation
Don’t photograph people or sacred spaces without explicit consent
Don’t dispose of medical waste improperly; follow host guidelines
Don’t volunteer beyond your scope of practice unless authorized and supervised
Don’t compliment a woman’s dress because she may gift it to you. (THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENS!)
